Woman Settles for $3 Million After Being Run Over by School Bus

Maria Garcia was a pedestrian waling in a crosswalk, with the right of way, when she was struck and run over by a school bus. The bus driver did not stop. She, and the bus, were identified through law enforcement investigation. Ms. Garcia nearly died, having received multiple, catastrophic injuries, including degloving injuries of her lower extremities, pelvic fractures requiring major surgery with instrumentation and multiple other fractures and internal injuries. She also sustained a brain injury. After extensive litigation, and after a mediation, the defendant agreed to a consent judgement in the amount of $3,000,000. Plaintiff sought a claims bill before the Florida legislature which was successful. The amount of the claims bill has been paid. Ms. Garcia was represented by Mark S. Roman, of Roman Austin.
