Women Sue University of Iowa Hospital for Race, Religious Discrimination

The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics (UIHC) faces two discrimination lawsuits after two women claim they encountered discrimination based on their race and religion.

Court documents say Nourhan Abdelrahim was enrolled in Kirkwood Community College and was participating in the Electroneurodiagnostic Technology (“END”) Program, a joint education program between the University of Iowa and Kirkwood Community College.

The course materials for the first day had students practice measuring and placing electrodes using each other’s heads. Abdelrahim reviewed the course materials in preparation emailed the course instructor, Marjorie Tucker, to make sure she could participate in class activities given that she wears a hijab as part of her religious beliefs.
