Caregivers to Receive $162M Settlement in Historic NY Class Action

A total of 200,000  personal assistants in New York’s beleaguered Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) scored a major victory last week after a federal judge approved a proposed $162 million wage-and-hour class action settlement in the case involving Public Partnerships LLC (PPL), the controversial fiscal intermediary installed to oversee the program in 2025.

Under the terms of the settlement — believed to be the largest wage-and-hour class action settlement in New York to date and one of the largest nationally — each personal assistant will receive an average of $680 — more than a full week’s pay. Some 50,000 people will receive between $1,000 and $1,800 from the settlement.
