Attorney General Accuses Amsterdam NY Landlord of Discrimination

Attorney General Letitia James announced that a Montgomery County landlord is being held accountable for alleged discrimination against low-income New Yorkers. Cesar Sosa, owner and manager of 57 residential buildings in Amsterdam, was accused of illegally denying housing to New Yorkers with Section 8 Vouchers.

The Office of the Attorney General said it found in April that at least two of Sosa’s online rental listings stated potential tenants would not be allowed to use any kind of housing assistance to pay rent. The AG’s Office also alleges that Sosa told a prospective tenant that his properties are “not approved for Section 8” in a phone call.
