City of Seattle Agrees to Pay $3.6 Million to Business Owners in 2020 CHOP Zone Lawsuit

The city of Seattle has agreed to pay $3.6 million to business owners who claimed their properties were damaged and their Constitutional rights violated during the Capitol Hill Organized Protest (CHOP) zone in the summer of 2020.

The city has until March 3 to pay the $3,650,000 as part of a settlement agreement reached this week. Paperwork released Friday says $600,000 of that money will go toward attorney fees and expenses.

“I am pleased that we were able to resolve this matter and turn a page from a difficult period in the city’s history,” a statement from Seattle City Attorney Ann Davison said.
