Construction Worker Who Fell 60-Feet On Site Settles for $6M

A construction worker who fell 60 feet through an unprotected hole near an elevator shaft has agreed to settle his claims for $6 million.
On October 12, 2018, Bartolo Chajchalac, 23, a welder, was in the course of his employment with Iron Works and Design by Alvarez LLC at a construction site of an apartment complex in Harrison. Chajchalac alleged that he fell into an improperly covered shaft from the roof, causing him to suffer multiple injuries to his arms and legs.
The general contractor for the jobsite was Hollister Construction Services, which subcontracted the framing work to Nomad Framing. FM Construction Group oversaw the roofing work which in turn subcontracted its scope of work to AK General Construction.
