County in Illinois to Pay $3 Million Settlement Over Woman’s Death in Jail

County leaders have agreed to pay $3 million to settle a lawsuit over a woman’s 2020 death in the Madison County Jail.

The settlement was unanimously approved at a special Madison County Board meeting Wednesday.

The  February 2022 lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis related to the Feb. 24, 2020, death of Elissa A. Lindhorst, 28, while in custody at the jail.
