Deadly Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Case Ends With a $2 Million Settlement

A two million dollar settlement has been reached in death of a man who died from carbon monoxide poisoning in 2019 at the Allen Benedict Court Apartments, according to attorneys.
Following the years-long civil rights lawsuit brought against the Columbia Housing Authority on behalf of Calvin Witherspoon, Jr., attorneys Richard Hricik and Amanda Dure say they settlement was reached and approved on Monday in Federal Court.
“I can finally grieve knowing that I got some form of justice for my father and that he can rest in peace,” said Danielle Washington, daughter of Calvin Witherspoon, Jr., who brought the suit.
