Delta Air Lines Will Pay $10.5 Million to Settle Alleged False Reports of Mail Delivery

Delta Air Lines Inc. will pay $10.5 million to settle allegations that it falsely reported delivery times of U.S. mail that it carried internationally.

The Department of Justice said Thursday that Delta agreed to pay the settlement to resolve its alleged liability under the False Claims Act.

The U.S. Postal Service contracted Delta to pick up mail at various locations and deliver it to destinations in the U.S. and abroad. Delta was required to submit electronic scans of the mail receptacles to USPS to report when mail was delivered, but allegations were made that the air carrier falsely reported delivery times.
