Homeowners Awarded $750,400 After State Farm Breached Their Contract and Acted in Bad Faith

J. Revell Parrish, of Whitten Burrage, represented plaintiffs that filed a breach of contract/bad faith lawsuit against State Farm arising out of an April 29, 2017 storm that damaged their home. State Farm’s adjuster estimated approximately $37,000.00 for damages. Plaintiffs believed their home had electrical and structural damage, which was confirmed by Plaintiffs’ engineer and contractor. State Farm failed to conduct a thorough investigation of the damage, hired a biased engineer to stand on its initial estimate, and disregarded Plaintiffs’ expert report. Neither State Farm nor its engineer ever investigated the electrical damage. Plaintiffs were displaced from their home for nearly two years and had to obtain a loan to make the necessary repairs to make their home safely habitable.

The Jury returned a unanimous verdict in favor Plaintiffs, which totaled $750,400.00.  $70,400 for the breach of contract and $680,000.00 for acting in bad faith.
