Man Falsely Arrested is Rewarded $269,810

Miles Evora was falsely arrested in December 2018 by Officer James Dills of the Leon County Sherriff’s Office (LCSO), for what officers alleged to be possession of crack cocaine. Mr. Evora was then kicked, punched and tased multiple times by officers before ultimately being arrested. The officers claimed to have field tested the substance they alleged to be crack cocaine, however no proof of the test being done was ever turned over to LCSO, the prosecutors, nor plaintiff’s attorneys. They did not keep the presumptive positive test, they did not take any photos of the alleged test, nor did they take any videos of the test, even though they wore body cameras and had regular digital cameras on scene. Mr. Evora’s case was ultimately dismissed by the State Attorney’s Office in 2019 when the Florida Department of Law Enforcement analyzed the alleged crack cocaine that Mr. Evora was arrested for, and it came back as “not containing any controlled substance.” Plaintiff’s attorneys Paul M. Aloise Jr., and Ryan P. Molaghan then had the substance independently tested, and the test revealed that the substance was sugar, which is what Mr. Evora claimed it was the entire time, icing off of a danish.

A verdict of $269,810 was awarded to Mr. Evora.
