Trump’s Call to Georgia Officials Could be Violating State and Federal Laws

Donald Trump may have violated both state and federal law in his taped phone call to Georgia’s secretary of state.

In the hour-long conversation on Saturday, the outgoing president asked Republican Brad Raffensperger to help him find votes to overturn his loss to Joe Biden.

Mr. Trump said: “So look. All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have. Because we won the state.”

He insisted: “There’s no way I lost Georgia. There’s no way. We won by hundreds of thousands of votes.”

The state’s election boss and other officials told Mr. Trump that they could not help him as Mr. Biden’s win had been fair and accurate.

Observers say that Mr. Trump’s specific request to “find” a certain number of votes to overturn Mr. Biden’s win and his vague reference that Mr. Raffensperger and his officials could face criminal liability could have violated laws designed to prevent solicitation of election fraud.
