Universal Music Files Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Against DistroKid

UMG submitted the 52-page action to a Delaware federal court today, and as many will recognize, the writing was on the wall here. Yesterday brought the announcement of the “Streaming Integrity Initiative” (SII), a program designed to decommission fake plays.
Though many distributors are on board with the majors-backed SII, DistroKid is conspicuously absent from the list of initial participants. So is Believe’s TuneCore, which only settled a $500 million Universal Music copyright suit earlier in 2026.
