Woman is Awarded $1.25 Million After Slipping and Falling at an Outdoor Mall

Devoura Willis, a 34 year old woman, was shopping at an outdoor mall in Minnesota during winter months when she encountered a pile of salt on a walkway just outside the door of a retail store. Ms. Willis’ tripped/slipped on the salt, fell to the sidewalk, and sustained injuries to her neck and back. Ms. Willis underwent surgical intervention to the cervical and lumbar spine regions thereafter. Liability and medical causation were hotly contested throughout.

The jury returned a 50% / 50% comparative fault finding, and rendered a net verdict of approximately $1.25 million.
