A Lawsuit Filed by a Bar Employee States That She Was Assaulted and Falsely Arrested During a Disturbance

A woman recording Trenton police officers outside a city bar had her phone ripped from her hands by one of them who assaulted her during a trumped-up arrest that left her with black eyes, she says in a lawsuit filed Tuesday.

Elizabeth Cisco was an employee at Championship Bar on Chambers Street in March 2019 but was there that night as a patron, she says in an eight-count federal lawsuit that names the city, police department, and several officers.

A Trenton police spokesman said the department had not seen the suit and typically does not comment on pending litigation.

It was near closing time when Cisco exited the bar due to a commotion and police activity outside. As she recorded, she started asking questions of the officers as to why they were arresting people, the suit says.
