Former Construction Worker Awarded Over $19 Million After Being Buried Alive

A Polk County jury has awarded more than $19 million in damages to a Colfax man who was nearly killed at a Polk City construction site in 2019.

Timothy Kono, 35, was an employee of a subcontractor when a trench he was working in collapsed, burying him alive until he could be rescued.

As a result, Kono sustained multiple injuries to his hips, legs, knees, ankles and lower back, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression, according to court documents.
