Virginia Veterans Hospital Sues U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for Racial Discrimination

A Dracut nurse employed at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital is suing the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, alleging discrimination is keeping her and other Black nurses from advancing professionally within the VA Bedford Healthcare System.
In documents filed in U.S. District Court by attorney Marc Levy, plaintiff Ama Asantewaa alleges an ongoing pattern of discrimination and retaliation aimed at undermining her career.
Asantewaa’s complaint, filed in September, lodges claims of race discrimination and retaliation in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and seeks compensatory, emotional, psychological and other damages in an amount to be determined by a jury, as well as attorney fees and other costs associated with the lawsuit and any other relief deemed just by the court.
