Judge to Hear Warnock’s Case Over Saturday Voting in Runoff Election

A lawsuit by U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock’s campaign and Democratic groups to allow early weekend voting in Georgia’s Senate runoff election will be heard by a Fulton County judge Friday morning.

According to court documents, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Thomas A. Cox Jr will hear the case at 11 a.m. Friday to determine if relief should be granted to the plaintiffs.

The lawsuit, filed on Monday by the Democratic Party of Georgia, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and the Warnock campaign, challenges the state’s finding that it would be illegal to hold early voting on Nov. 26, the day after a state holiday. The lawsuit says the state’s interpretation hurts Warnock in particular because Democrats tend to push early voting more than Republicans.
