Jury Awards $1.3 Million to Man Who Was Injured After Hitting a Loose Cow on Highway
A Connecticut jury has awarded $1.3 million to a driver who collided with a cow that was loose on a highway five years ago, court documents show.
The jury determined the driver, Stefan Lapkowski, should be awarded $174,000 in economic damages and more than $1.1 million in “noneconomic damages” following a three-day trial this month in state Superior Court in New London.
Lapkowski filed the lawsuit in 2019 against the cow’s owners, Jason and Kelly Spreng, of Montville, alleging they were negligent for failing to secure the cow and preventing its escape onto the highway.
