A Former College Student Who Showed Interest in Mass Shootings Is Sentenced to 4 Years in Prison

The former Norwalk college student who authorities said showed an interest in mass shootings was sentenced Tuesday to four years in prison after accepting a plea deal in April.

Brandon Wagshol, 23, was given a 10-year sentence to be suspended after four years. Judge Gary White also ordered Wagshol to serve five years of probation following his release from prison, and he will need to register with the Deadly Weapon Offender Registry.

In agreeing to plead guilty to charges of second-degree assault and illegal possession of high-capacity magazines, Wagshol faced up to five years in prison. Wagshol had been facing charges of attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault, second-degree assault on an elderly person and four counts of illegal possession of a high-capacity magazine.
