Bad Faith Insurance Case Results in $11,760,000 Verdict

Matthew P. O’Grady, of OnderLaw LLC, represented his client in a bad faith insurance case that resulted in a verdict of $11,760,000.00. The case was a bad faith failure to settle against Lloyd’s of London. The insurer failed to investigate shooting death of plaintiff’s minor teenage son in parking lot at a nightclub, then failed to settle for $1M policy limits and denied coverage based on assault and battery exclusion. Coverage found by the Court as a matter of law, and Jury verdict in favor of plaintiff for the tort of bad faith failure to settle. Jury award of $10M, plus contractual award of policy limit ($1M) plus interest for a total of $11,760,000.00 with interest continuing at 9.65% per annum.
