$150,137,340 Awarded to Family of Man Beaten to Death at Nightclub

On June 13, 2011, Tyler Tourinho was a patron at Vanity Ultra Lounge, which was owned and operated by Nizam Mohammed and Jamal Mohammed. After exiting Vanity Ultra Lounge, Mr. Tourinho attempted to go back inside when he was stopped by a bouncer named Christopher Castillo. After a brief verbal altercation between them, Mr. Tourinho walked to the parking lot to leave. Mr. Castillo followed Mr. Tourinho to the parking lot where he repeatedly struck Mr. Tourinho in the head, causing him to suffer fatal brain injuries. Tyler Tourinho experienced intracranial hemorrhage, subdermal hematoma, and ultimately brain death despite neurosurgical intervention at a Tampa Bay trauma center. Mr. Tourinho was survived by his 1-year-old son.

The owners of Vanity Ultra Lounge, Nizam Mohammed and Jamal Mohammed, knew that Christopher Castillo had a history of multiple other assaults and batteries prior to June 13, 2011.

Mr. Tourinho’s family sued Christopher Castillo for wrongful death, and sued Vanity Ultra Lounge, Nizam Mohammed, and Jamal Mohammed for their vicarious liability for Mr. Castillo, for their negligent hiring, retention, and supervision of Mr. Castillo, and for failing to maintain their business in a reasonably safe condition.

Shaun M Cummings, of Florin / Roebig, P.A., represented Mr. Tourinho’s family. The family was awarded $150,137,340 in a verdict.
