City of Benton, Arkansas Requests a Verdict Reversal After $32 Million Awarded in Police Shooting Case
The City of Benton and its attorneys have requested that the US District Court set aside the jury’s verdicts against former Benton Police Chief Kirk Lane and the city.
Last Monday, a jury awarded $32 million Monday to the parents of a teenager killed by a Benton police officer in 2016 following a weeklong trial in Little Rock.
The jury found the city of Benton liable for $30 million, $15 million for failure to train its officers, and $15 million for failure to investigate the fatal shooting. Former Benton Police Chief Kirk Lane was found liable for $1 million for failure to train his officers and another $1 million for failing to investigate the fatal shooting.
