City of St. Louis Could Owe Millions After Airport Police Clear a Major Hurdle in Equal Pay Lawsuit

The city of St. Louis could be on the hook for millions of dollars after airport police officers cleared a major hurdle in a lawsuit seeking equal pay with city cops.

Police at St. Louis Lambert International Airport filed suit in 2016 demanding raises to match salaries at the St. Louis Police Department and reimbursement for past wages. For years, airport cops have been doing similar work to city police, the suit argued, and should be paid accordingly.

Last week, a St. Louis jury agreed, paving the way for negotiations between airport cops and the city. If those aren’t successful, two more trials could begin to determine if and how much the city must pay roughly 130 current and former officers.
