A Man Has Been Sentenced for a 2020 Car Accident That Left a Teen Partially Paralyzed

A Grand Island man has been sentenced for an accident that left a 13-year-old seriously injured back in September of last year.
According the Hall County District Court records, Luis Ruiz, 22, was sentenced Thursday to 4 years in prison on a felony charge of failure to stop and render aid following a personal injury accident. He also received 90 days for a charge of willful reckless driving and 3 years for DUI- causing serious bodily injury. The sentences will be served concurrently.
Ruiz’s driver’s license has also been revoked for a period of 15 years following his release. He has also been ordered to pay a $1,000 fine as well as 24 months post-release supervision.
Ruiz had faced two 2nd degree felony assault charges, but those were dropped as part of a plea deal. On March 16, 2021, Ruiz pleaded no contest to the three remaining charges.
