Biden Vetoes GOP Effort to End His Student Debt Relief Plan

President Joe Biden on Wednesday swiftly vetoed Republican-led legislation that would have repealed his plan to cancel up to $20,000 of student debt for tens of millions of Americans.

GOP lawmakers, with the help of a handful of moderate Democrats, last week passed the resolution to nullify Biden’s student debt relief program, criticizing the plan as too costly for taxpayers and unfair to Americans who didn’t attend college.

“I’m not going to back down on my efforts to help tens of millions of working- and middle-class families,” Biden said in a video message on Wednesday. “That’s why I’m going to veto this bill.”
