Police Department, City in Ohio Sued for Retaliation and Racial Discrimination

The city of Chillicothe and the Chillicothe Police Department are being sued by Officer Traevon Williams for racial discrimination and retaliation.

Williams has worked for the Chillicothe Police Department since 2017, since then according to the the court filing, he has repeatedly been subjected to hostile conduct and discrimination.

While being hired Williams, who had four years of experience, requested a lateral transfer that would include higher pay and more vacation time. He was told that the department did not do lateral transfers. However, months later, the lawsuit alleges, the department performed a lateral transfer on a white male officer. This officer, who had three years of experience and took the same entrance test as Williams, was given a pay scale of almost $10 an hour more than him.
